Mouthwatering Gemstones: The Watermelon Tourmaline

As we enter the final month of summer, I thought what more summer-appropriate gem to highlight than the one akin to the most in-season fruit: The Watermelon Tourmaline. This October birthstone is among one of the favorites of jewelry designers and gem collectors because of its gorgeous color ranges. Tourmalines have the widest range of color of any gemstone, and gemstones with the clearest color are the most highly valued.

This particular candy colored gem is known for displaying several color ranges in one stone. The beautiful bi-color and tri-color stones display a deep magenta pink and green (and white) variety. The pink similar to the juicy and sweet fruit core, the white like the rind, and the green the outer shell of the fruit.  The colors of the watermelon tourmaline occur 100% naturally and is a very rare occurrence in nature!

These exquisite gems are known to bring love, luck, and prosperity to the wearer. Tourmalines are typically found in East Africa, Afghanistan, Brazil, and even here at home in the USA.
