Jewelry Care & Cleaning

Love Your Jewelry and it Will Love you Back!

We can all agree that we love our jewelry, so we should be sure to care for it as much as we love to wear it! Read on for some tips to properly care for your Fine Jewelry...

  • There are several things that can encourage tarnishing and harming your jewelry: Perfumes, Moisture, chlorine, lotions, chlorine, household cleaning agents, and salts to name a few. These items should be avoided at all costs. We should always take our jewelry off when washing our hands and applying lotion. Also, when removing your rings in public areas to wash your hands, I would highly recommend putting them in your purse or pockets so you don't leave them behind! I have done this before personally, only to return to where I left it and found it was STOLEN! Never again!
  • Fine jewelry is not recommended to be worn during physical activities such as exercising, hiking, swimming, and other outdoor activities as they may damage the stones or can scratch the metal surface of your jewelry. Leave them in a safe place!
  • Be sure to clean your jewelry regularly! This is so important and helps to keep it looking brand new. Be careful not to use any abrasive cleaning cloths or objects as this will cause scratches on the metal and stones.
  • Fine Jewelry should be stored in individual ziploc baggies and store them in a jewelry box. This will prevent scratches and oxidation (tarnishing).
  • Gold is measured on a scale of 24 karats. 24K is 100% pure gold and very soft, making it prone to scratching and bending. 14K and 18K gold are our favorite choices as they are very durable and more resistant to scratching. A soft, lint-free jewelry polishing cloth will help maintain gold jewelry's beauty. Please see your polishing cloth's informational label to make sure it is safe for gold.
  • 14K gold vermeil is sterling silver coated with 14K gold, making it a precious metal all the way through. The gold coating can last many years with the proper care. Use a soft, lint-free polishing cloth to clean lightly. Please see your polishing cloth's informational label to make sure it is safe for vermeil jewelry. Vermeil jewelry should not be aggressively cleaned as the gold coating will be thinned. Harmful agents listed above in addition to water (i.e. showers, pools, beaches, etc.) should be especially avoided when wearing vermeil jewelry.
  • 14K gold-filled is a solid layer of 14K gold bonded to a base metal. It is 100 times thicker than gold-plating and in turn can last for many of years. Use a soft, lint-free polishing cloth to clean. Please see your polishing cloth's informational label to make sure it is safe for gold-filled jewelry.
  • Sterling silver naturally oxidizes and therefore tarnishes. As with vermeil jewelry, all harmful agents listed above including water should be avoided when wearing sterling silver jewelry. The air-tight ziploc baggies mentioned above are extra loved by sterling silver jewelry to block out moisture.
  • Diamonds are the hardest natural mineral on the Mohs scale, but they can still suffer from scuffs, fractures and chips when met with a hard blow. While they are known to be very durable, please wear and store your diamond jewelry with great care as you should with all of your beloved jewelry.
  • Gemstones will vary in hardness on the Mohs scale, but all should be worn and stored with delicate care. All gemstones, especially softer ones, should definitely avoid prolonged exposure to chemicals, water and sunlight as they may cause colors to fade. Opals, pearls and turquoise are more porous stones and should NOT be submerged underwater.
